They typically use variants of Li-ion, Li-Poly, Ni-MH, Ni-Cd, or lead-acid (SLA) chemistries, and have a rated number of charge cycles until their max capacity erodes to a level we consider 'dead'. Rechargeable batteries can take all shapes and sizes, and be linked in parallel or series to reach a desired capacity or voltage respectively.
