What IS an IPX Rating?

It seems like almost every flashlight has an IPX rating these days, but what does it all mean? How noticeable is the difference between IPX-2 and IPX-7? Well, the short answer is - quite noticeable actually. IPX stands for Ingress Protection Rating. Remember: electronic devices are highly sensitive to water, so protecting that electronic equipment can be challenging but important. An IPX rating gives you information about how well protected your electronic device is from dust and water while still remaining fully functional.

How do you know what IPX rating you need for your flashlight? Well, what's most important to consider is what you plan on using your light for. Do you need a light that can be completely submerged in water, or do you just need enough water resistance to take it through the rain without worrying about damages? Are you depending on your light source for multi-day camping trips among dust and dirt, or using an EDC in your home? This infographic will teach you the differences between each IPX rating, and help you choose the light that fits your specific water resistance needs.
